Kristy McNichol is a lesbian, Because she wants to do what she can to help stop teen bullying, Kristy McNichol, a teen actress who played tomboy "Buddy" on the TV show Family in the 1970s came out as a lesbian in 2012, just before she is about to turn 50. Her publicist told People magazine
"She hopes that coming out can help kids who need support. She would like to help others who feel different."
